We keep a few ex-batts who have to all intents and purposes stopped laying. Except recently we found this egg in the nesting box. It was heavy and misshapen. I couldn't resist cutting it open and was surprised / shocked to find it solid - almost rubbery all the way through. Any ideas folks??

(sorry, can't find a way to add a photo. Description: gnarled surface, egg size shape, solid egg shell colour all the way through, rubbery appearance.

Apart from this, the hens are in good health and seem happy.

Sounds like the water content is very low. nothing to worry about if the hens are happy. Ex-bats are prone to producing wierd eggs. Never had any like that myself. They go like that when they have been frozen as well though.

Bought a Scotch egg from Waitrose recently that contained a solid white egg. I think Waitrose supplies are from Columbian Blacktails, so they are another source. I have never seen one before - just amazing.
