This is an x-ray taken on one of my drakes a few years ago that shows just how HUGE their gonads are at this time of the year, in the winter they probably wouldn't even show up on x-ray.

I thought this article from call duck expert Chris Ashton may clear up any confusion on them needing bathing water. He actually states that they need it more than most.
