Thank goodness for these two lovely girls, helicoptering and just about to fledge.

    What can we do?

Well there you go 127% - and it was flying that did it. I think its percentage of the carbon target. Mine was smaller than UK average but still, obviously, too big. Well its the Olympics in Tokyo next year so it would be way to expensive anyway! After that I'll have to go by pushbike!

    What can we do?

I think children should have to do all the cleaning in school and that defiantly would make dumping trash a social no-no. The roof is coming along nicely. Its only small but the only open ground we've got. If the chickens got up there they would eat the lot in half an hour!

    Blackbird duets

Does anyone have any idea what these blackbirds are doing? It sounds like a musical contest with each listening to the other's phrases and trying to outdo it - a bit like a rap jam contest!

    Ospreys 2019

Yes! Fantastic! The youtube stream is brilliant, with 2 hours rewind. I was intrigued to know if ospreys stand up to lay their egg like chickens do but no - she just fluffed up a bit for a few mins while Aran was preening right next to her and there it was. Well done!!! and, of course, for the...

    Back to Japan

:) They have to rake the gravel every morning before they get their mash. They are practically a wild population that forages in the woodland margins across the whole upper shrine site. I'm not sure how much they actually use their coops and, presumably, they are often visited by nine tailed...

    Back to Japan

So we are going back on Sunday and its pretty exciting to say the least! Ive realised since that this was the coop (one of many) for the sacred chickens at Ise but there was a bird flu thing going on and they were all being kept undercover until it passed We wont be going to Ise this time (but...

    A new house

Woah!!! I like the rustic logs. It all gets kicked out whatever! Took a picture of Bonnie and Linden in the bath the other day - its a bit more 'bijou' than yours, well it is with Bonnie in it.

    Foxy Season!

My neighbour saw a fox in the street yesterday and the bin bags had been rummaged through down the road for the first time I've noticed since last year. They'll be having their cubs soon and chicken dinner will do very nicely! :(

    Drinkers

After using these for a while I should let you all know that they work... but... not very well. So, what I think is going on is that a slightly more pricey design may have a flat (or flatter) faced o'ring (and maybe a bit stiffer) so that displacement of the lever has more effect. The round...

    Drinkers

I've just ordered some of these drinkers. The chickens are staying in their run when when we go away for a couple of weeks (rather than off to boarding like before) and, although they are having a hen sitter, it will be easier for them and peace of mind for myself knowing that the water supply...

    Weather

The government will always be somewhat out of touch LadyA (well this is what I think) because they never listen to the silent majority! Silly them! They listen to the drum bangers and popularists who have an idea that they shape opinion because of the number of follows and likes and papers sold...

    Weather

It was really foggy here this morning. Rosie, our neighbour, said that it was 'radiation mist' which sounded pretty alarming but I think she meant that the sun was evaporating all the rain last night. I've finally got the liner stuck down in the green roof box and fitted the down spout flange...

    Houses

Its Leamington Spa Hen-Gen. Good to see you all! Did see your circular pond and stepping stones in previous pictures Marigold - like a lot - kind of Zen :) Sorry, just realised how small this picture is.

    Houses

Awesome Hen-Gen! Lets just say you have a bit more elbow room than us. But the river Leam corridor at the top through the town is nice to have. And handy for the train to just about anywhere.

    Recipes

Ive just started a batch of Staffordshire Oatcakes (to use up some surplus flour that has been around too long). Usually make 40-50 of them in a go and freeze them. Have a funny feeling I might have posted this in a previous thread, but here goes: 500g Wholemeal flour 500g Plain porridge oats...
