Weather!

Hope not too many of you were washed away in yesterday's heavy rain? It really poured here and coupled with the high winds driving the rain into all the crevices the birds were none too happy. I even found a turkey stag sheltering in an old pig ark, and turkeys NEVER go inside, they sit out in every weather going.

My poor little pekin growers had their coop flooded ( due to the old dodgy roof) so late last night I ended up transferring them all to an unused rabbit hutch for the night, for which I hope they were grateful as I got drenched in the process - one of several drenchings yesterday. :)

Still high winds today but at least no rain.

We were slightly ahead of you with the weather! We had the torrential rain on Tuesday, and the high winds yesterday, with just an occasional heavy shower. And we are promised more heavy rain for later today. One forecast earlier this week said that parts of the south of Ireland would get up to 250% of normal rainfall during this week! However, yesterday was at least dry mostly, and I was able to get some strimming done. And so far, it's dry today. Hope it stays that way, as the wind isn't too strong today, and the henhouse needs cleaning. The door opens against the wind, so I can't do it when the wind is too strong. And I've got tons more strimming to do, lots of areas here where I can't get the mower. My late husband planted hundreds of trees & things, but of course that means I can't just run the mower around a clear stretch! And the mower is too heavy for me to lift over the base of the fence around the chicken pen, which is 70 x 44ft, so that has to be cut with the strimmer too. I really must try and find something I can use as a ramp to get the mower in there!

The wind was bad enough that it broke two of the 4 x 4 posts that were supporting the trellis for our vine, which is one of those fiddly jobs to repair. Apparently it closed the central line in London when a tree fell on the tracks.

Enjoy it, Hen Gen! We've had torrential rain here since yesterday afternoon! And it's still raining.

Well done! What it is to be young and vigorous! We were like that once - I think I remember it well...?
There was truly torrential rain all night in Beddgelert and the river rose 4ft overnight. Still tipping down relentlessly this morning with no letup forecast, so we packed up and are now comfortably at home. Our changeover day was supposed to be Friday so we only lost one day. Shall be able to spend tomorrow keeping up with election news and, no doubt, drowning our sorrows at the result.

Well, we sat up and followed the election until 4.30 a.m, without the need to have an early night because of the long drive ahead. Scarey to think that this morning, a large proportion of the population are driving around shell-shocked and sleep-deprived - but what a night to remember!

We are not that young, but I strongly suspect that along with you we are probably a lot fitter than some half our ages. We saw the river as we went towards Snowdon and it was a raging torrent.
We have just got back home and it is sunny and hot. Didn't get stuck for too long on Londons orbital car park.

I've been going like a dervish with the strimmer and the mower, because there's been a gap in the heavy rain, and there was a good brisk, drying, wind! Got it all done, but taking off the grass collection box from the mower (grass is too long and too damp for the mulcher) and propping the back of the mower open with a stick across the back! You can just imagine what I looked like when I was done, as it was the biggest bit of the garden I was mowing, but I don't care! I brushed myself down well before coming inside, and it meant I didn't have to keep stopping. Didn't mow near the beehives though, as I don't think the bees would have appreciated being showered with grass clippings! :D
