Good morning everyone,
I basically have two flocks, the first are 19 weeks old and the second are 15 weeks old. From the first time I put them all together (four weeks now) the older ones have been picking on the younger ones, I know this is normal, the whole pecking order thing, but I have a Roo that is 15 weeks old and he just keeps terrorizing one of the older girls, and it's the same one over and over. She's a different breed and he is just so MEAN to her. The other older girls chase him around like he's nothing. I feel so bad for the one that's being picked on and she is worth more to me than he is, I mean she is going to provide me with eggs for some years to come. He is a beautiful Buff Orpington.

What should I do??? This has been going on for about four days now. When they are free-ranging she pretty much stays away, but if she gets close he will chase her away. In the run, he will get her, stand on her and pull neck feathers. It sucks to see this. I thought I would give it a few more days and observe what happens, maybe it's........I don't know..........let me know what you all think.

Thanks everyone.

Beak bit Wrigley. Or separate or cull. Can you get Omlet to send Bumpa bits over there or can you get them locally? Much better than a standard bit I think, from what I have seen. More effective and kinder.

He needs to settle down, he is just immature at only 15 weeks old and finding his feet. The older girls are in a more dominant position to him, so at the moment he defers to them. The pullet he is trying to mate with is in a lower pecking order then her siblings so this is why she is his target.

You could maybe remove the cockerel for a while, he will calm down as he gets older and exerts his natural authority over his flock.

Thanks Chris and Foxy, I'll give it a try. The only problem is that I don't have another run to keep him in. He's changing fast, every day I can see something new. He tries to get "pissy" with me, but I don't stand for it...I've got thumbs and I'm at the top of the "food chain".
Like I said, he's beautiful and I'd love to keep him, so hopefully he'll grow out of this fast. Otherwise I'll have to give him away. My wife does not like the bullying, she loves "Liz Taylor", (that's the one being bullied) and she would have no problem with me "Wacking" him.....if it comes down to that.
