so during my daily check of the shed i found our very first egg today! a bit long but i expect a few funky shaped ones at first, but this one feels wierd. it feels hard boiled, nothing moving inside of it and feels hard. is this normal? i imagine there might be more than one yolk in there, as i know they can lay double yolkers for a bit. not even sure which chicken laid it but i suspect one as it kept crouching when i went near her and i read on here that can be a sign they are due to start laying.

Only one way to tell, crack it open!. All kinds of oddities occur in the first weeks of laying though, generally nothing to worry about.

DOUBLE YOLKER! we had another 3 laid today but two had soft shells, but the last one is a perfect egg shaped egg. can they lay more than 1 egg a day? i know you can trick them into it with a light in thier shed/coop. i'm finding it really eggsiting getting up and rushing outside to see if they have left me any more.

At the moment, even being a seasoned hen keeper, I am really eggsited about my this years bantams eggs. Not counting weeks, or even thinking
about egg production, as I still think of them as my babies, had 4 tiny weeny little eggs from Pekin hybrids and Pekins yesterday. The smallest eggs ever but perfect, lovely!
An added bonus is the fact that my lovely pure black, that I thought was a boy as it has large crest and long wattles for a baby, is a girl!!!
