So you got your Lavenders ! Did you hatch them yourself ? I've only recently realised how much I like the Whites.

Someone was asking recently how to sex youngsters - today I loked at my batch of six. Two are definately males as they are bigger and longer. Two are definately female as they have very feminine heads but most noteably the wing feathers are longer, almost fully developed. The two definate males have no wing feathers to speak of yet. The other two, though smaller have little or no wing feathers so it will be interesting to see what sex they turn out to be. It would be good if wing feather growth could be a useful sign for sexing.

I didn't hatch these ones myself, but luckily Helen from Kensymth Alpacas needed to find a home a home for these lavender ducklings and I just happened to be around! :D I have six, 4 fours and 2 girls but I vent sexed them quite young. The ones you think have feminine heads will probably be girls, and the females do tend to feather up more quickly in wing feathering but that isn't always the case. Drakes have a much longer, angular head and a longer body, The physical differences appear at around 5 weeks old. Will take some more photos as this bunch are now 5 weeks old.
