Yes the older girls have started to lay eggs. I am hoping this is a sign that they are happy. They are my pets first and if they lay eggs even better. They are so tame and lovely. I didn't think I could get so attached to a chicken but Robyn and Ruby (the older girls) will happily jump up on to my lap for a cuddle and a hope that I may give them some food.

The smaller girls (Poppy and Lottie) are also quite tame. My other girls and Cockerel are not so tame (rehomed these so not sure of their back ground). They have started to take food from my hand but I am hoping as time progresses they will trust me more.

Do you think this is possible?

They will certainly trust you more Lynette, but be careful not to undermine the cockerel's authority. Never get between the hens and him and always feed him treats first so he can call his girls to food. Makes him look good and keeps his hens loyal to him- they will follow him everywhere and listen to his every command, particularly the danger warning.

Lovely photo.
