I intend using the hatchmaker for hatching only , I have set the temp. at 38.5 just above the where the top of the eggs(chicken) will be , do you reckon that's about right ?
Hi, you need to set it to 39.5 - measured at the top of the eggs- with still air that means it will be 37.5 at the middle of the eggs.If using as a hatcher only it is not too critical. Hope this helps,
regards, David
Yes, I set mine to a degree lower for the hatch - they generate a lots of heat themselves by this time and as you decrease temperature, you increase humidity so the air is a little more humid.
Some of the automatic incubators I've noticed do this too - my Rcom pro 20 reduces the temp by about 0.5 degrees I think for the last 3 days.
I'm incubating them in the RCom20 Pro , and yes , it does reduce from 37.5 to 37 for the last three days , I successfully hatched four ducks in the pro , but after my disaster with the dewlap toulouse(now known to be difficult) I decided to try and cover all bases by doing the last three days in the still air hatchmaker with the humidity factor helping with the sticky shell problem , 38.5 seems about right to me.
I'm hatching ? 10 rhode island reds , due to hatch in 7 days , from someone in the village who knows his stuff (just to get my confidence back) and I have 6 abacot rangers to follow on from ebay , due in 24 days , will try the toulouse again next year , it has now become personal .
Well if you want eggs- give me a shout- you can collect- i am in Norfolk- so no post and they are very good birds ( even if i do say so myself
