Blue egg day

My one and only complaint about eggs sellers on ebay has just happened.

Went to let the girls out and see if there were any eggs, and there was a blue one. I suspected that the hens I was raising were not purebred Leghorns as advertised but hybrids that would produce blue eggs - not what you buy purebred white Leghorn eggs for, I am most de-chuffed about it. Because I thought they were hybrids I did buy more eggs elsewhere and am raising 4 of these. I love Leghorns and their skittishness and certainly their prettiness, and their HUGE pure white eggs. However I am glad and grateful that she is laying and healthy and will be the envy of her mates, I think she is under 20 weeks!!

I can understand your displeasure at the mixup over the eggs, and I hope you contact the seller and then tell us what happens. Most annoying; still, at least they did hatch into healthy pullets, and as you say, Leghorns are such pretty birds anyway.
A nice present, all the same - it's great to hear that pullets are coming into lay after the solstice, how do they know things are going to get better? Personally I would welcome any girls that lay blue eggs, I think they're just lovely, especially in a mixed box of various colours. Happy New Year, Val, I hope all is OK - apart from the deviant eggs!

That is a shame, but as Marigold says, at least she is heathy and laying well. Amazing isn't it, only a few minutes difference in daylight, and the laying starts. Ours found a large dry spot under a hedge today and had a wonderful dust bath, roll on spring
