Typical scenario - Poppy fast asleep in furthest corner of our living room, by the French windows, two doors and a passageway away.
Me in the kitchen, doing various tasks.
I go to the fridge and silently remove carcass of cooked chicken, to strip for making soup.
By the time I’ve placed it on the worktop and removed the lid, Poppy has quietly appeared at my side, looking hopeful …

Not a pic but hope it amuses you.

Whilst stitching a cut on the hand of a 75 year old farmer, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the conversation got around to politicians and their role as our leaders.

The old farmer said, “Well, as I see it, most politicians are ‘Post Tortoises’.”
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post tortoise’ was.

The old farmer said, “When you’re driving down a country road and come across a fence post with a tortoise balanced on top, that’s a post tortoise.”

The old farmer saw the puzzled look on the doctor’s face so he continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he’s up there, he’s elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just wonder what kind of dumb arse put him up there to begin with.”

Flu jab clinic this morning. Tony booking us in.

Receptionist; Have you had your Covid booster?
Tony; Yes.
Receptionist; And where did you have it?
Tony; (deadpan; lifts arm and points theatrically to his shoulder; THERE!!

Nit a flicker from the receptionist. But I had to take off my mask and wipe away tears of laughter before going in for my jab.

We had a trip to Cambridge and decided whilst up there we would look at a few memorials at wartime airfields remembering those who never returned. they ranged from the modest to the grand, to be fair Steeple Morden needed to be big as the losses on the roll of honour at each side were substantial. it's Mustang propeller, btw.
All rather nice, and still some remnants of the airfields visible.
Couldn't find one, as it is now inside and army barracks. So, on way home we stopped at RAF Debden, which is now a part of Carver barracks. It's by the road so we got out and took some pics, looked at the runway behind the memorial, and suddenly we were surrounded by Military Police. It turns out that they have several instances of graffiti and vandalism on the memorial, plus someone using it as a picnic site so they had set up cameras and come down when people hove to.

They soon decided we were harmless, and OH went on a charm offensive and said we had been going around the memorials, and her dad was on Lancaster's etc, and sorry we worried them. Next thing

"Would you like a tour of the RAF side of the base"

We had a nice tour round, including the radar tower which is still in use by the military. Eerie feeling standing in the middle of the runway imagining those that flew out never to return. We asked about Bassinbourn memorial which has a propeller from the Memphis Belle. it was as we thought since it became an army barracks the memorial is inside the grounds now. Oh well not to worry.

Then as we went to leave one of the police came up and said " I have spoken to my boss, and he has spoken to Bassingbourn commander, and if you give us some details, they will contact you regarding a visit.

We came out somewhat happy, and had a good look outside, we couldn't see the cameras, talk about well hidden. But at least we can say we were nearly arrested by the Military Police

Well, here it is Bassingbourn memorial, a propeller from the real Memphis Belle which flew from the airfield, and the same airfield where the original Memphis Belle was filmed, the newer version was Duxford with the Sally B portraying her.
Clark Gable was stationed at Bassingbourn and flew 5 missions.

The runway is opposite the long avenue that runs down to Wimpole Hall, at the time the avenue was lined with Elm trees which provided such a dense cover, that is where they hid aircraft and munitions.
