Hi everyone,

I’m planning to build a critter proof chicken coop and would love to hear advice from experienced chicken keepers. We’ve had concerns about predators and small animals getting into the coop, especially raccoons, rats, snakes, and foxes.

What materials and construction methods work best to keep these unwanted visitors out? Is hardware cloth better than traditional chicken wire, and should I bury the mesh around the coop’s perimeter?

I’d also appreciate recommendations for securing doors, windows, and ventilation openings.

What practical tips have worked best for keeping your chickens safe?
