hatching goose eggs

My embden goose has been sitting on eggs for 28-30 days. She does not come off the nest and with great difficulty I managed to move her to count the eggs. 14 in total. She has access to water for washing and swimming but will not leave the nest. Wiil the eggs hatch or should I have been sprinkling them with water? Is it too late to do so now. I will be taking my life in my hands as the gander and another 2 geese attack if you attempt to go anywhere near the nest site.

Have they hatched yet?

The only downside is if the parents are a 'bin lid job' and you can't get near them, letting her rear them will usually mean they will behave in the same way when older. Hand rearing (if it's not too late) can make them much tamer when older.

I would have let nature look after itself and wouldn't have sprayed water on the eggs.

It's been a very bad year for hatching Geese this year and I have heard that many breeders are very disappointed with their numbers.

when letting a goose sit - leave her to it , just ensure the nest is clean by adding straw around the side , and ofcourse plently of food ,water , space ,

also if you have more than one goose , the other may continue to lay in the same nest as the broody ; hatching will be very spread out and most will be abandoned ,

i continue to buck the trend ; 17 fertile eggs from a pair of exhabtion toulouse (the real deal , no grey geese , true exhabtion dewlap toulouse ;) )
