Festival of Food

Every year, the village has a Festival of Food. I've never gone, until this year. This year, I was determined to go. So yesterday morning (when the sun was shining, it was a lovely day.) I walked to the village. From home, to where the festival site was would I suppose be around 4 1/2 to 5km. And I walked home too! It was amazing! The variety of food stalls! Everything from fish & chips from the local chippy (who make the best fish & chips ever!), to several variations on bbq, polish food, Indian street food, Vietnamese food, pizza & paella, Mexican, Spanish and African. There was free music and events in the little park, there were little carousels for tinies, craft stalls, etc. Just fabulous. I eventually chose Ethopian vegetarian food, and opted for a "taster" plate. A lovely selection of dishes, with amazing flavours. And a slice of chocolate biscuit cake for dessert. Couldn't resist it! I was so glad I went. And that I went yesterday, as it's pouring rain today!

Lucky you. I love trying foods from different cultures. And it reminds me of how bland most European food is in contrast to the taste sensations from Asia. My ears particularly pricked up when you said Vietnamese food. I could live on it all year!

I once had some kind of fish with chilli, ginger, garlic, kaffir lime, galangal and some other stuff. Possibly the best thing I’ve ever eaten.
Chocolate Biscuit Cake? That’s just gluttony!???

Now I am hungry.
Sounds lovely. There was an international food area at Tall Ships Greenwich a few years ago and trying all the different foods was a real experience, especially as we had three days in which to work our way around. Best was the paella.
On rail replacement bus standby in Ely Cambridgeshire, wonder if I can find something international. There is a good fish shop here. Had a rather lovely scone in the cathedral cafe

And you know one of the best things was, I discovered when I opened my container of food that the container wasn't polystyrene or cardboard. It was made from sugarcane, and was compostable! Made me wonder why so many places are still using polystyrene! That really puts me off takeaway food. The polystyrene & plastic containers it usually comes in.

A work colleague has just been eating a Costa sandwich, and on the wrapper it says it is plastic free and totally recyclable. I have my doubts about this as the cardboard is coated in a plastic substance and nowhere on the packaging does it say what the clear window bit is made of.
Our local farm shop has instigated a bring your own container for dry goods such as pulses etc, and also for fresh fish

We used to have a bulk foods shop, where you could bring containers or bags. Was great to be able to buy the amount you wanted of flour, pulses, grains, dried fruit etc. Would love to have a shop like that again.
