I have just had a phone call from one of my family and they have decided (and no I am not allowed to argue, say no or anything else! ) that they would like to purchase a breeding trio of yokohama for me as a gift. Actually they would like me to have four different types, but I can probably restrict it if I show willing with one trio!

I know absolutely nothing about these birds, their requirements given their long tails etc. so if you would be so kind as to share any knowledge you guys do have I would be grateful.

I have the space, but not the housing (yet) and would want to get this put into place first, obviously - but those tails worry me! :D

Thanks in advance for any and all info! Also any breeders out there?

I bought our TNN cockerel from Brian Sands. We were treated to a guided tour of his birds, including Yokohamas. He had them in a large caged area about 6' x 8' with a very clean woodshavings floor and perch right in the centre about 2" off the floor, perhaps 2' 6" to give room for the tail feathers to hang without dragging. They looked really impressive. He's in the remotest part of Lincolnshire though, which is a fair way from you.

Perhaps contacting breeders on the register with a view to having a look might be worthwhile?

Thanks Chris - just the sort of information I need. I have some of Brian Sands breeding (bantam rhodebars) and would love to visit and have a natter - will try and catch up with him at one of the shows and ask the question.

Thanks again! :)
