My three chicks, hatched (in an incubator) from a pure Welsummer hen and a bantam Wyandotte (he was a GL x SL I think and was a beautiful silver colour with very little lacing)
I love that I have three completely different looking chicks. They are five-and-a-half weeks old in these shots. The first to hatch:
I thought for the first few weeks this one was a Welsummer but now I'm hoping she/he is actually a GLW.

The second out was this white one. I have absolutely no idea where this colour came from! Must be a throwback of some sort! He/she has just 2 or 3 little black feathers on the neck at the moment. I don't like the look of those wattles in the picture.... eeek!

And this little guy (I'm assuming a guy from the size, legs, comb and wattles) who will grow up to look like goodness knows what, but very handsome I'm sure!

I don't need to know sexes really as I'm keeping them all, whatever they are (though obviously my life would be whole lot easier if they are pullets!) I'm hoping the first two are pullets - they look (and behave) totally differently from the third one. Though the online descriptions of how to distinguish them have confused me - they all feathered in exactly the same, nobody has bald patches where others are feathered, that I can tell. And I thought that pullet tails were supposed to be more upright than cockerels, but this silver one surely has to be a boy, yet his tail is the only one sticking up.... :?
Anyway I just thought it was interesting to see what a cross can produce. I am looking forward to seeing how they mature
