hi.
i own 15 chickens however roughly 12 are the age of laying and laying well.
one of my daily eggs are coming in with wrinkly egg shells. is this because at the moment i am using coccoid treatment or because they have a illness?
also how can i see which one it is.
thank you in advance
hannah x

please can you post a few more details, which treatment are you using?
Are the wrinkly shells soft or of normal texture.
please can you post a picture?

Hi Hannah ----it sometimes happens as a hen reaches the end of her laying life, sometimes relates to past IB infection---I think its actually one of those things that some hens do and it doesn't matter at all! Hope that helps, Ros.

the treatment is coccoid
and the shells are normal texture just wrinkly
ill try and post a pictureIMG_0776.JPG

Presume these are young hens coming into lay and you are feeding layers with ACS additive? Also assume they all look the same. Suggest different coloured leg bands in comination but it means watching to see who is missing from the run to deduce who has laid the egg -sounds complicated with so many. Easier with very small flocks. Never seen or of heard of this before so can't think it is ACS additive. It looks like the inner membrane is wrinkled when the shell is applied.

I doubt coccoid is responsible, i have used it without side effects. How old is the hen, she could be coming to the end of her lay.

This is exactly the sort of shell one of my rescue hens laid when she was in recovery. She never has regrown a tail but is happy, contented, and the only Warren laying at the moment. She is aged between 3 - 4, so I don't think wobbly shells matter that much!!
Stick with this little hen.

One of mine occasionally lays a wrinkly egg just like yours in the photo. Not sure if she lays smooth ones in between as I've got 16 hens so i can't tell who's laying it, but the eggs taste and look just the same on the inside! Don't worry about it.
