i am geting really really annoyed with the weather now i want sun and lots of it i know we need the rain but it seems we have yet another week or so of this and its to much i actully have plants out that are getting ruined and the greenhouse is due to burst but its still a bit risky to put stuff out plants can only handle so much water .

can we do a sun dance :D :D :D

Said on the radio that it would have to rain for 3 months to restore the ground water levels. Great, no flooded cellar for a long time then.

yeh i know but cant it stop for just a week or so not sure about where you live but we have had mini monsoons well it seems like it ,it can be dry and bright for 20 mins you pop outside and the cloud appears as if its watching you then thats it it lets rip .dread to think how short the summer will be or will it be late and long :-)05 who knows .
i keep telling the girls each night i put them to bed that summer will be here soon am so sure they think i am lying to them

Had a sunny dry day here today for once. Allegedly back to normal (raining) tomorrow. We don't need rain in Yorkshire - we've had plenty. Still cold, too, although it made it into double figures today. Fingers crossed for better conditions soon. :)

I just hope that wasn't our summer in March when we had those lovely warm weeks!!

i hope not sue could you imgaine not having any decent weather in the summer yikks not worth thinking about now today is quite nice but its meant to rain tons :-)05 also it is the marathon so it would not suprise me if it did rain again.

Everywhere is awash at the moment and we're not "darn sarf". On the one hand we desperately need the rain as our water supply is from a borehole. For months now we have had very fine clay silt in the water - it often looks like drinking chocolate. We filter it for drinking and for the washing machine but it is so fine, finer than talcum powder when it dries. It takes 12 - 18 hours to settle out if you fill a bottle and let it stand. OH is working on a 3 stage filtration system but the pipework and valve system to bypass the filters and the settling tank in the event of a power cut are a real headache. The borehole is artesian but the pressure isn't enough to get through all the filters etc without a pump. The new bulding keeps flooding even though we have the roof panels on and the roof membrane in place and the water has found it's way into his workshop so he's not a happy bunny. The worst thing is I have no idea how long it takes for the water to reach the aquifer - it's 88 feet down through clay and shale so it could take years if our trial soakaway is anything to go by! Just want to get the building work finished so I can bring my girls home (then I'm going to get a cockerel!!!)

it has been gross beyond gross down here but dont worry its moving up north m yesterday was just mental , never been to 3 different garden centres in one weekend  its about the only thing to do at this time of year when its raining . we dont need to worry about watering plants as its to wet to get them out so they are suffering in the greenhouse and we have at least another weeks worth of rain today is meant to be the better of them until after saturday .the run is nothing but a bog hole and the girls are getting stressed with it now especailly the feathered leg bantams :( but theres nothing i can do at the mo.

We've left ours in the run Karminski. Wet muddy feet and wet feathers isn't a good combination.

Margaid. Sounds like you need to scrap your water system and go for a pumped deep well -from under the bedrock. Problem is there are health issues with standing water, even if you filter it.

Sealed tanks avoid the bacteria problem and the water from the borehole is totally pure as far as metals/nitrates are concerned and tastes wonderful. It's cheaper to try the particle filtration than sink a new borehole, and in any case we have no idea how deep we'd have to go or whether the water would be drinkable. Some boreholes within 3 miles are too sulphurous to drink. it's one of the "joys" of country living but we won't abandon it until we're too decrepit to manage - not now himself has just got his workshops set up and I'll have my own big workspace once building work is done AND I can keep chickens and almost anything else I fancy ...

although the bantams section is still a bit boggy i cant beleive how quick the big girls section has dried out not good enough though more rain coming in during the night tell around 10 am tomorrow :(
