sorry i havent been around for a while but things went crazy here and it doesnt help that i blew up my computer  anyways within my girls run is a very large sycamore tree { foxy has seen this } and its got to be trimmed one side only next plot neighbours moaning about the leaves fulling on thier plot { they didnt need to take on this plot } so the council have decided it is to be trimmed because this couple moaned well thats if everyone agrees to it as we have to wait for the biodiversty woman to come and see it to give her opion so now i have got to go back down the route of where do i put the girls while this is going on , if the birds get stressed and die via being moved or stressed if they have to stay within the run then the council or tree surgeons insurance will replace them { hope that doesnt happen } or they will pay for any damage done to the run but its still so must aggro to put up with . the tree gives the girls the best natarul shade i could ask for in the summer so i dont want it touched but sounds like i dont have a say in all this .

Convince the "biodiversity person" that it will be best to keep the tree as it is. Fallen leaves are great for insects. Convince your neighbours that the leaves make great compost, eventually. So they should be glad of it. Then you won,t have to move the girls.
A tree surgeon will probably take less than a day to trim back even a large tree. Could you keep them quiet in cardboard boxes with some water and feed?

that was suggested to me last year by foxy when this was first brought up i just dont want to upset my girls at all but now i am thinking why just trim the tree when it will only grow back thicker which means the council will have to keep on spenidng money on it when they might as well just cut the whole thing down but then that means my girls wont get an brilant shade and they would have to put up with what i can make them but you cant beat nataural shading .

Can they not just cut back the side that's affecting the neighbouring plot? If so then they may only need access to part of your run & you could maybe partition it off so your hens are kept in the side furthest from where the work's being done.

this tree is way above house height and its also a very strong tree thing is all the leaves full onto the netting roof of the run from all sides and the wind just blows at least 85% onto the path and this plot i cant stop the wind doing that so apart from the council getting the cranes in etc to just saw the tree of at the bottom and lefting it out whole i cant see it being trimmed will do any good what so ever the plot next door is still going to get covered in leaves , my run is broken up into 3 sections and i can put the girls into the furthest section which is about 10 foot from the tree then cover the sepration fence with tarpaulin so they dont see whats going on but i dont know if that would be enough to keep them settled .
