It has been scary here, horrendous gales in Wales today, driving over the bridge was pretty hairy this morning, just got back and the chooks are all struggling to get into their henhouses, being blown all over the place poor things :o :o

___A bit wet and windy here as well. All poultry drifting sideways in the wind or hiding from rain. Not as bad as 83 storm (or whenever it was) went to feed chickens before I realised that I would never even get out of the garden to go to work. The chicken house(large and heavy) was gone --just its base left and no birds. It had been lifted over our hedge, across the lane, over another hedge and was upside down in the field opposite with no floor, End of chooks I thought --no, they were amazingly still inside , sitting happily in the upturned house in the apex of the roof, the only way they could still be in there that I could see was if it was rotating as it flew. They were all safe , not even the slightest bit upset! Anyone else has chickens that have been blown away here ?? :-)07 Ros

Ros that sounds awful.!!

It has been very windy here today, the hens didn;t like the rain and gales, spent alot of time hiding in either the hen houses or under the trees.

It's been really windy here in Pembrokeshire over the past few days too- the in laws farm (where I keep my birds) is at the base of the Preselis and it's always windy but yesterday the roof blew off one of our homemade hen houses! Luckily none of the birds was hurt :D Think it's going to be a tough winter :-)06

Spent most of today, repairing compounds and one of the henhouse roofs, very windly last night, so worried about my choocks that I was down the garden at 2am with a torch making sure none of the houses had tipped over :-)07
Also had powercut 10pm - 12.30am and 9am - 1pm today   so glad I haven't the incubators on or chicks under lamps at the moment.
Totally agree think it is going to be a bad winter.

Icy.................everything is white and drinkers are frozen :( in a way its good as all mud is now solid ;)
not sure if birds are to keen but sun is breaking through.

Gosh you ALL seem to having a rough time.

- Sounds like a scene out of Wizard of Oz....a flying, whirling chicken coop, (will make a great tale for my potential "kiddies" book of chicken tales)

Here in Uttoxeter, Staffs- we have had lesser gales- our oak tree was furiously dropping its acorns- think the girls thought the sky was falling down like that old fable tale?
SO instead of taking shelter in their house, safely ensconced in the large metal shed, they decided to huddle under an old "slatted" bench. Such silly girlies at times-they have three shelters to choose from, but the bench offers the very best view of the garden and our patio door- when they hear that door open they fly up the garden hoping for treats!

Rain, rain and more rain here! saying that though we have had a couple of nice sunny days, albeit very cold, just a shame by the time I get home they are all in bed :(

dont know if i am looking forward to this so called snow we have coming in looks like it mite be hitting all down the my side of the country but at least the ground will harden cant take this mud much more even though its been pretty dry for about a week .

We have snow here in the southwest, not much just an inch maybe but it is absolutely freezing! Spent about an hour trying to defrost the drinkers as I forgot to bring them in last night, oops!

piccy from this morning, note my cat Remy helping me check the fencing! :D :D
