wow, people with lots of chickens, how do you make sure they are all healthy and none of them have mites, also is it expensive having all of those or not really

4 mix breed ducks 3 mix drakes
1 orpington x rooster,
hens 2 brahma, 3light sussex, 2 bluebell, 1black rock 2 orpington x, 1 orpington, 3 polish x silkie, 3 pekin, 2 pekin x silkie,
1 giuneafowl
chicks 7 pekin, 6 orpington bantam, 1 x, 1 silkie
thats 28 adults and 15 chicks think thats all of them

At the mo we have 2 ex-batts/barns, a Blue Orpington, a Light Sussex, a Speckled Sussex (who has a chick that's a cross between a Copper Marans boy & either our Light Sussex or 1 of the ex-batt/barn girls), 2 Leghorns & a beautiful Buff Orpington boy. Our 11 year old daughter has 3 Silkies.

Hi, I have 2 rhode islands cross hens, 2 black star cross hens, two naked neck hens, one pekin bantam, my lovely French copper maran cockeral, two light sussux cock and hen and 35 or so mixed breeds. Think o got nearly 50 chickens and yes food can start getting expensive when you start to get a lot I spend roughly €30 a month in food for them (mixed grain) I think it would work out nearly double if I fed layers. I did have an outbreak of mites and found a natural powder that covered everything. I powdered the chickens and the coops twice and sor far not seen one :-)

I have something called Chicken Village which is in a botanic garden just up the road from me - people visit and look at the different pens (which are made to look like a village) a castle, a church, a sweetie shop, a prison, villas, kindergarden and cottages - and each one there is a different breed with all the info you need to know about them. I have 270 adult birds and about 480 chicks - I breed my birds mainly for exhibition (showing). I use certain wormers which come from home (France) much cheaper and easier to give to the birds, and I use spot on treatments which maybe aren't worth while if you only have a few birds. I'm also very lucky to have a "deal" with my feed merchant because I use a certain make of feed and other products he sells and I get all my feed at cost price (very worth while) and in exchange he uses photos of some of my birds in his publicity. As I show my birds they are all handled in some way everyday - I can "see" straight away if somethings not right -
I keep the quail for fun and the geese for guarding they are called adolph and Ava :D :D

WOW! It must be a tricky business having that many birds, so starting of with lots of birds is expensive but then to keep them has an average upkeep. I love hearing what kind of birds everyone else has, keep posting!

I have gold laced bantam orpingtons, cochins in black and blue, australorp bantams, and faverolles in ermine, buff, blue, black, splash and salmon plus large salmon faverolles oh and a naughtly light sussex bantam called ena! :D
I have ducks too, runners in black, fawn, chocolate and mallard. Muscovies in b/w and choc/white.

On my wishlist is lavender Muscovies and geese! :D :D
Maybe we should start a wishlist thread? 0:-)

I have one of each of Buff Sussex (called Buttercup), Crested Cream Legbar (Primrose), French Blue Maran (Bluebell), Speckled Sussex (Daisy) and last but not least Silver Laced Wyandotte (official name Lily, but commonly known as Potty Dotty, Psycho Chicken or Attila The Hen)!!!!

Hello, i keep large fowl light and coronation sussex, white leghorns, cuckoo marans, silkies (mainly white but a few black, gold, partrdge, a few large polands, muskovy ducks and Giant exhibition dewlap toulouse geese- i have about 200 birds!
regards, David :)

I have a light Sussex, a Blackrock, a Tiffany Green, a Amber Star and 2 CLBs. Though I do also look after 20 more - just been giving them their routine checkover, took over an hour! - Wouldn't be without them though!

I would like a Laced Wyandotte (though perhaps not if it's called Psycho Chicken!;))

This is a bad idea - I don't want to know how many I have :D

2 Blue laced red Wyandottes (1 roo, 1 pullet)
2 'Lorps
3 Ameraucanas
3 Ameraucana x Orpington
1 Barred Rock
1 BCWP, 1 WCBP (Polands)
2 Speckled Sussex
1 WLRC roo

Several mixed chicks in brooder; 7 Poland x eggs in hatcher; 25 chicks dues in 10 days from breeder

1 tufted roman goose; 5 black muscovies, 3 brown/white muscovies; 28 muscovy ducklings, and 20 more eggs in hatcher. One duck on 5 eggs, and one duck on 20 (YUP) eggs :-)08
