What killed my hens?

Laying capabilities really depend on the breed. Call ducks are supposed to lay around 30 eggs per year, while something like Indian Runner ducks are expected to lay closer to 290 eggs per year. You won't be overrun with chicks as long as you don't let the ducks incubate the eggs.

You must get lovely compost too from this arrangement, Marigold. I'll have to look for some clear tarpaulin, which sounds very useful. I was wondering how you kept rain from blowing in. It all sounds amazingly cosy for the hens!
