I started of with chick crumbs, then went to something else think was growers pellets, and at 18 weeks swooped to layers mash, is this right, now do they stay on this for good???

Well if it helps Paddy, I feed my ducks on half wheat and half layers pellets this time of year. I put a few tablespoons of cod liver oil and mix that in about once a week. They seem to enjoy it! :D

Does the. Of liver oil do them good ye? No health risks with it? How much would you put in?

You mention Layers Mash Paddy - Pellets are better for ducks as mash can get stuck inside their bills when mixed with water.

I feed pellets ad-lib in a hopper and wheat in a half bucket of water.

In the winter when they are not laying, they need very few pellets as they don't need calcium to form egg shells. Drakes will eat more wheat than pellets because they don't lay eggs of course.

If you provide both, they will regulate themselves, taking what they want.

Putting wheat under water softens the wheat but also stops rats, mice, crows and so on from getting it. The water can get muddy but since the wheat sinks, you can drain this off carefully daily and refil with fresh water and top up the wheat.

I'll let Foxy answer the Cod Liver Oil question!

Hi Paddy, yes, I feed layers pellets mixed with wheat, in a very similar way to Tim. I once used mash when I ran out and found the ducks snorted the mash and didn't like it very much! :D

About once a week in winter I add 2 tablespoons of cod liver oil, bought from an agricultural store, to about a large scoop of feed. I do this to help keep their feathers in good condition.

Sorry I was mistaken its layers pellets they have been on since 18 week old there now about 22week
