what do i do for the last 3 days!

hi all

i was just wondering do i put food/water in for the last 3 days? and also when the eggs hatch do i have to remove the shells or will they be ok left in till she moves off the nest?

Hi, your broody should have food and water available at all times- she will still come off the eggs if very hungry- even when pipping.

ok cool cheres for that i didnt think they came off the eggs in the last 3 days i thought they stayed there till they all hatch lol

is it that she'll stop turning them 3 days before they pip?

I have no experience of a full broody hen, but I have to switch off the auto turner on my incubator 3 days before the eggs are due to hatch!

Leave food and water for the broody as usual - other than that you do NOTHING - when you see that she has hatched give water for the chicks in something that they can't drown in - and feed chick crumbs - mum and chicks will eat that until they - the chicks - go onto minipellets at 3 weeks - or onto growers at 8 weeks depending on the make of feed that you use t don't panic I feel that if nothing else you have put all your eggs in one basket - and that everything will be great for your future hatching 17
