What breed is this cockerel?!

Hi,
We hatched out this cockerel late june last summer. His father (see below) is a buff sussex cock, and the mother a brown sussex. However, the cockerel seems to be a mix of the two, rather than one breed or the other. I was wondering if any of you know the breed of him.

Above is the cockerel.
Below are his buff sussex dad, and his brown sussex mum.


Any ideas?

erm, surely if he's a cross he can not be classed in a breed. he's a sussex cross. you can't get a pure bred from a cross of two breeds.

But his mother and father are both sussex. With all the other chicks we hatched, the chicks turned out to be either like the mum or dad. So I don't understand why this bird appears not to have.

genetics. he's a hybrid. pretty boy though! i would say he's a sussex cross

I agree with Bertie, he is a mix of the two as you know -a Sussex cross, more brown than buff. A hybrid would be a cross of two or more completely different breeds. Strange he has no distinct neck feathers. Perhaps at the next moult they will show.

He is Sussex by breed but as you have mixed up the colours, he is neither Buff nor Brown though he favours the Brown in colouring.
It's not a good idea to mix the colours as the breeding of future generations will be unpredictable.

hes taken more of the brown gene on i would say but he is sussex cross :mrgreen:
