Hello everyone, just thought i would post about the very dry weather her in north west Norfolk! No real rain for about 9 weeks now- my once lush green grass is now a very sorry brown, tinder dry, dust bowl. Even the trees are shedding leaves and my apples, plums and greengages are falling off unripe and small :(
The temp has been constantly at or near 30c for as long as i can remember- anyone know a rain dance?? I have been watering daily to try and keep some grass for my geese/goslings but am fighting a losing battle :(
Just wondering how everyone is coping? I know most of the country has had rain (and lots of it) just wish it would makes it's way to Norfolk :)
regards, David :)

Hi David,
This weather is badly shared out, :? we have had rain every day for the last two weeks, what I would give to have some of your drought, my strawberries are rotting on the plants even though they are in raised pots.
The poor chickens are almost needing waders, as the pens are turning into a real puddly mess, :( 003.jpg
on the other hand the geese and ducks are loving it :D

At least we have plenty of grass, it must be awful for you watching everything turning brown and not being able to do much about it, :( I will pray to the rain gods for you, and tell them to send the rain we are getting down to you. :P Only don't blame me if it starts raining and then forgets to stop!

Hi Sue, we could do with a week or two's rain!! 28c here today- a bit cooler than recent days
Just been cleaning hen houses out, spraying for red mite and dusting- too hot to work
Forecast says chance of a "slight shower" tom- yipee!!!!
At least your ducks and geese look like they are having fun!
regards, David :)

Hi David,
It's only 14c here, it stopped raining for a couple of hours this afternoon, :) but guess what it's tipping it down again, feels like 9pm as its so dark, :( we still have sheep to clip, but it's never dry enough for long enough to get the job finished.
Hope you get the promised showers.
Regards
Sue

hey I'm also in norfolk and my chooks are not loving the hot weather and brown frazzled so called grass.
forcast rain showers tonight but I'm not convinced. girls not laying so good either would that be due to the heat?

Hi, still no rain :( :( :( :( It's looking more like the Gobi desert every day. My egg production has dropped as well- it is the heat - and forecast dry and hot for another week :(
Good job there is no hosepipe ban and i have no water meter :D :D :D
regards, David :)

yes forcast warm and dry untill thurs at least. the rain we had on saturday wasn't even enought to wet the ground! the grass has now officially been downgraded to hay and the chooks are not amused

you had rain????????
well not here- not a drop- grey clouds but no rain :( :(
Just watered the garden and left the hose running in one of the paddocks :D
regards, David :)

Yes had a short shower on sat about 6 am but within half an hour was bone dry again. have had heavier rain today but not for long. only about a half hour but at least it has wet the ground

I'm almost in the same situation here (nearly said the same boat but that would have been a bad choice of words  )

In Bedfordshire, we've had a number of very hot days but the rain we've had hasn't been heavy at all - we've just had a very light shower here and there.

My allotment water tank has, for the first time run out. I had 1200 litres in the spring and now I have none. I use this to water my raised beds and they are desperate for some rain now.

The grass here is brown - I use the ducks bath water every night to water a small area that is staying green but some dusty patches in the field will not have a chance to recover before winter now which will mean I will end up with mud then.

Lets hope we get a little more rain soon down in the South East.

Sunny Bournemouth is living up to it's name but we did have a drizzle tonight [whoopie].

We need some rain here- Sussex. The chicken lawn is still dry earth only (left over mud from winter.), normally the horses are paddocked off this time of year to stop them gorging grass , this year they are paddocked off so if we ever get any rain they will leave it for some winter ground cover ! No grass also= no hay etc. Guess every one here will be living on whatever I can get that they will eat from Tescos!!! . I have not even seen any hay or silage being made round here this year. Having some chook pens built inside a barn so if all gets too bad I can keep a lot more of the chooks inside and dry in the winter.Ros :?

Typical, Sat. morning & needed to replace a neighbours fence panel & it chucked it down, so we got soaked along with the ducks, too busy splashing to notice.
