HI everyone
We were sold these as one day old Khaki Campbell ducklings, they are now three weeks old, don't appear to be changing colour and we are getting very suspicious ;) . We think that they are Aylesburies. Can anyone help to identify them.

Thanks

would say aylesbury type white bird. they have the aylesbury pink bill.

Sorry,I don't have a clue what they are,but they are very cute.

Pythons are easy, not quite as cute as your ducklings.

Would you be able to take them back,as they are not the breed you wanted,or are you too attached to them now? They look soooooo cute and sweet, really adorable.

We are new to Ducks, we only went to see if we could get a drake Call duck for our Lydia (recently widowed) and ended up with a pair of Muscovies and 2 ducklings. We will get her a partner as it breaks my heart hearing her call for him. As you can see we are keeping the ducklings inside at the mo, but they are getting very big. They are so funny to watch.

We thought we had lost our Muscovy on the first day, but found her up our conker tree. Does anyone know do they always return? Whats peoples view on clipping wings.

Regarding Albino Campbells, we always wanted white ducks but thought a runner would be too hard work as we have heard they are very messy. Although seeing the mess the Call Ducks made of our garden I don't think they could be much worse.

They are most likely Aylesburies or White Campbells, good luck with them.

often i've seen breeder's pens that are concrete with a small bath in for them , it seems to be very effective

They do look like Aylesburys - I have some and love them so much - we call them the 'waddle pack' because they do just that.
We also have 2 Muscovies and the first thing they did was to fly! I clipped one wing which has helped but at first they used their claws on their feet ( have you seen them :o ) to climb up the fence like rock climbers up the face of the Iger ( don't think that's the way you spell it but you know what I mean  ) They have bonded with the Aylesburies now and follow them everywhere so don't attempt to escape.

They look like Aylesbury with the pink bill. What I would do is give the breeder a call and find out if they keep Aylebury ducks...??

As for the mess, I rotate my runs and have 4ft wide tubs, 1ft tall (that you can buy in Agricultural merchants) as duck baths. They soon turn the area around the water to mud so I put a square of wire mesh on the floor. It is still gets muddy but they don't create as many holes.

If it gets really wet and the field runs are getting muddy, I tend to confine them to a gravel run that I can rake over again.

Wing clipping is perfectly acceptable to do and once the feathers are fully grown and the blood supply gone, it causes the bird no pain. You hardly notice the difference when the wing is held close to the body.

Just remember to re-clip after a moult. My Guinea fowl will perch on the roof of our house but clipping a wing keeps them in their run.

Muscovy Ducks - the only duck not to have descended from the Wild Mallard and belong to a sub group of perching ducks called "greater wood ducks" - their claws help them to perch in trees.

Dear All

Thanks for all the replies, we will let you know how we get on. I know what you mean about the holes in the garden so putting wire mesh down may do the job. We are going to do the bottom of the garden up and we have heard about the rubber chips that appear quite good. We will also chop a couple of brances down from our tree for the muscovies to perch. We have 5 chickens as well and they all seem to get on with the ducks.

The breeder had quite a fey different ducks so it could be a mix up, although they all looked healthy.

Once again thanks, i have been learning a lot from the forum.

Could they be white campbells?

Thanks

Annie
