Hey guys,
Just got my 4 Pekins and very excited. My question is do they require food and water inside the coop at night?

Thanks

Keith

Yes, no need for food or water at night, but they need to have the pophole left open so they can get up with the sun to eat and drink at this time of year, unless you're a very early riser (5-30 approx at the moment!)

Im in the process of designing/building my own automatic door closer with the option of either a timer or photocell as im an electrical engineer. So hopefully wont have to get up early!!! ha and will be alot cheaper than buying one.

Ours get let out about 9, cant have the cockerels shouting outside to early

Surely they get up when you open the coop and let the light in? So as long as your consistent it shouldn't matter that they aren't let out when the sun rises?

I always keep all food inside henhouses - no wild bird poo etc to contaminate their food but water is kept outside though - don't feel bad if you want a lie in - a couple of hours without won't make any difference to them - but when it's dark they don't eat and drink anyway :-)17
