Just to make you aware and warn you :
A friend called to say her neighbour bought 6 Choc Orp Eggs from ebay a couple of months ago, they hatched bright yellow! Apparantly 2nd seller to report him to ebay!!
Has not been able to contact seller by email or telephone, unable to get money back. Apparantly was on a buy now and asked her not to go through Ebay to save on fees so paid direct through paypal who will not help. Has no choc eggs on today but has Light Sussex SHOW STOCK listed.
Be Warned Stay Away = Fraudster.

That's horrid, chocolate orpington bantam eggs can sell for over £200 on ebay.Paypal can get the money back for her,she needs to go to their resolution centre, and put in a claim as the goods are not what she was sold.
I recently didn't recieve an item, so went through a lot of stuff on ebay and paypal.I started at ebay and they forwarded me to paypal resolution centre.

She got a standard reply from paypal that she can not have her money back as item was received""!!

When I looked into it,they had another section for 'item not as described' or something like that. She could also try trading standards,as she was sold these eggs under false pretenses. They clearly are not what she paid for.

I've been unlucky enough to have been diddled a few times from people on Ebay/PayPal but always got a full refund when I went through the resolution centre.
The last time was for a settee that they took forever to deliver and when it arrived turned out to be threadbare!!
As Lydia said, there's a bit where you can claim that the item that arrived wasn't as described and then you've got a case. Trading Standards would be my next call. Cheek! :x

Hope your friends neighbour gets her case resolved

Osric

please pm me the sellers name so i can beware, as i just searched Light Sussex SHOW STOCK and it came up no results
i understand you cannot put the name on the board but i don't think a pm would hurt

The auction finished 15th Jan at 8.59am went for £6.50 = Light Sussex Fertilized hatching eggs SHOW STOCK

Wow! What a shame! - the chocolate orp eggs are going for a song at the moment- next year the market will be flooded with them and they'll drop massively in price- such a disappointmant for your friend :( - hope it gets sorted soon.

kk sure
and the choc orp eggs on ebay are silly money right now i saw some for £250 earlier
k i can see it sue and that name will stick in my brain

Let me check with Tim as I don't see why people can't name sellers on Ebay if they know first hand or from a reliable source that they are not apparently as decent as we would hope.

She has left a negative feedback for him, but I have just noticed that some other poor soul has just paid over £150 for "Choc Orp Eggs" from the same seller, and they have left positive feedback that eggs were received safely.. Would not like to be in their shoes when they hatch in 3 weeks time!

I ran this past Tim and the consensus is you are welcome to post the sellers username from Ebay here on the forum.

So long as you remain civil about the person you are naming, do not slander etc we feel its fine that sellers that are not as they appear are named on the forum.

It is helpful then for everyone as they can see the person's username and if they wish to make a purchase from that person they will of course be doing so at their own risk with the knowledge that others have not had the hoped for eggs etc.

This will apply to any dodgy Ebay sellers if you have a bad experience or know of someone (a verified source/contact) who has.

Well! I think that is fantastic!!! Thankyou both for that - I wish everyone was sensible and sensitive to the distress of others. It makes me proud to be part of this forum .

He goes under the name of chocorpsrus but was previously under the name of chrisbow until 9th Jan 2010. He is based on Northwich, Cheshire.
Apparantly the person who owns the pictures of the Chocolate Orpingtons that this person has used without permission has also been onto ebay, so lets hope he is stopped from listing choc orp eggs again.

Ah,I remember seeing some pics on ebay that I'd seen before, just assumed it was also on ebay. You get to recognise ones that you've seen before, for example on bid4poultry.

We've used ebay loads of times for lots of different things, and when people offer a local collection service as this person has on his/her listing it suggests that they are honest and confident in what they are selling.
It's obvious that the negative feedback that they have received has been the person in question has had to buy (pretend to buy) another item off him/her just to leave some sort of feedback on an item that they bought 'outside of ebay' . Could there have been a mistake? ie sent the wrong eggs to a wrong address?
I think if i was spending that much money on half a dozen eggs I would have been collecting them in person.
To be honest any good breeder of any type of bird shouldn't have any need to advertise on ebay. Lets face it any one advertising eleventy million unrelated cockerels running with seventy zillion hens? Come on.
If we want to fetch new blood into our stock it can't be done lightly, research, recommendations, travelling are all involved. The click of a button will very rarely meet our expectations.

Personally, I feel that there are many honest people on ebay who just use it as an extra outlet for their hatching eggs - (I've certainly dealt with a few) it is after all a massive market for eggs as well as everything else! When you purchase hatching eggs from any source there is always a risk that they wont hatch, but from what I've read it seems that they did hatch but weren't the choc orps that had been paid for. Unfortunately, there are always going to be a few people who will take advantage of a colour/ breeds popularity just to make a quick buck- in chickens as well as anything else. I think it's a great idea to name these people so that no- one else gets caught out. But if it were me, I wouldn't let one person put me off a whole marketplace. - For those of us who live in the middle of nowhere the internet can be a great tool for getting the birds we want :D

I had a few eggs from ebay last year with mixed results. i had some pekins that hatched the wrong colour and from another seller had some great chicks from eggs that were the colour they should be. its all a bit hit and miss I think but if ever I'm asked to pay outside of ebay alarm bells start ringing. the way I see it if someone wants you to pay outside ebay its for a reason and to me that reason is because then you have nothing to fall back on if you're mis sold something. I'm a very untrusting person and its things like this that make me so, its very sad that people out there take advantage and make it harder for other sellers who genuinly sell eggs from good stock. I will still be buying some eggs from ebay this year(I'm already getting twitchy for my first eggs of the year) but its hard to know the good sellers from the bad. think it would be helpfull if as well as naming sellers we have had bad results from maybe we could recommend some too. would help to stear clear of dodgy sellers and help those honestly selling good eggs :D

I had already thought about having a good sellers listing and will start a new thread for it in the sub forum for chicken hatching eggs

Great idea- am sure there'll be a few forum regulars that also sell on sites like this. I'm hoping to have some hatching eggs for sale in the spring- and think it's a good thing if sellers get rated as much as possible- on this site and elsewhere! I don't think any buyer would be that upset at having low fertility or hatch rates IF the seller is ready to listen and respond to the problems they have had and have a sensible return policy when it is required.
