OH been out birdwatching, was walking back along lane, when a near neighbour stopped and offered her a lift, she got in started chatting to Karen, when the car a way in front just opened a door and threw their dog out and sped off. The dog legged it down the road after the car, Karen with great presence of mind put her hazard lights on and shot after it. Luckily the dog ran out of speed and slowed down, they drew up alongside and dragged it into the car.
Took it to the farmer next to us who has dogs and a spare kennel with run, popped dog in there, phoned vet who came down, think we all guessed it wasn't microchipped. It's a Border Collie about 3, looks in good health, well behaved and trained, obeys commands, friendly.
What a thing to do, luckily it was early Sunday and they got it before it got to a main road or met another car coming the other way.
The farmer is happy to take the dog on as she has just had one of hers die.
The three of them said they feel like hunting the people down and throwing them of a high speed train. The car was gone before they could get the number

Sometimes I give up on the human race but thank goodness for people like your OH , Karen and the farmer.

I opened this post with some trepidation, I knew it would be bad. Words can't express how I feel, but sadly I'm not surprised, given what we read every day about man's inhumanity to man (and beast, obviously). I am only, and truly, thankful that MrsBYM and Karen were there to save the poor creature, no wonder you all feel furious, who wouldn't, its awful. More positively, I hope (am sure) the farmer is able to give the dog a long and better life than he/she had before. Many people are totally despicable, but we can outweigh them in our actions and today a good thing was done, which I can see may be scant reassurance right now, but hopefully, in the long term, it will tell.

I'm glad it worked out well for that wee dog due to your OH and your friend. S/he was a lucky one and I hope has a long and happy life with your farmer friend. As to the previous "owners" what kind of lowlife does that to a sentient animal? Haven't they heard of the RSPCA and other animal shelters? It's just more of the abhorrent 'me, me, me' culture started by Thatcher and encouraged by the Tories of any colour.
Sorry, but I hate/abhor cruelty to animals.

Poor dog. I wonder if it was stolen and dumped, maybe because it turned out to be neutered or something? There are so many dogs being stolen these days. Microchipping is so important.

Yes, I agree with LadyA - as the dog is well behaved and trained, someone must have put time and care into training him/her, so probably from a reasonable background, and quite possibly stolen. Not caring enough to get him/her microchipped, though.
Is it a dog or a bitch? Is the farmer just going to keep him/her, or make any attempt to find who is the actual owner?
What a lucky dog, not only to have been picked up immediately by kind people, but taken to a new home and cared for. I’m so glad there are people like Ruth and Karen and your farmer friend, to balance out the bastards.

I have been told that some of the dog thieves are removing the microchips which is one reason why the 80 or so dogs in Suffolk haven't been reunited with their owners. No idea whether or not that is true. All five of my adult cats are chipped and I may have the kittens chipped before they go to new homes - it's easy enough to transfer the ownership details.

It is a dog, not neutered, Jean has two Labrador bitches gran and granddaughter, the younger one hasn't been spayed. So she says she will get the collie, castrated eventually. She contacted the dog warden who is happy for her to keep the dog as the pound is full of "post lockdown" dogs his words, and she has told him she is happy to keep the dog. He was a bit noisy in the night, but today was happily assisting OH as she was gardening at Jeans, apart from thinking every time someone bent over it was the cue to stand on their back, but a get down, stay down soon sunk in.
The vet came round and said he seems sound of wind and limb, she took some bloods.
Karen has put notices up and it is on Facebook, so we will see what happens.
Last year it was us finding a load of dumped Guinea Fowl, which we sort of have, they come home to roost and eat, but during the day they nip through the hedge to the neighbouring farm.
The weirdest thing was a tank of stick insects once, which my God daughter was delighted with. They lived happily with her for ages.

It's definitely true that microchips have been cut out of stolen dogs, here anyway. Just cut out. Poor dogs.

Keep seeing posts about stolen dogs all over Facebook. There's a post of a male collie dog called 'dave' stolen Carlisle area in January still missing. Could be anywhere. BYM is there a photo of the missing dog?

There have been several finds of numbers of stolen dogs recently. I've seen posts from the places in both Ireland and the UK where they have seized several dogs at a time, and they are seeking the owners.

The dogs owners have been found, he was stolen about 6 months ago from a garden in Dorset, the dog warden had posted pics of him on various sites. He was chipped originally, so it had been cut out a while ago. There have been lots of raids on traveler sites in Kent, Suffolk and Essex, so we guess a site was getting rid of dogs.
He was certainly ecstatic to see his owners, they came up Friday, we were quite sorry to see him go as he was a model lodger and had fitted in well, Still nice his owners have him back and aren't worrying what became of him

So PLEASED to hear he’s back home now, after such an awful time for him and his owners. Hard as it is to get over the death of a dog in a road accident, (which happened to our first dog, driver didn’t even stop,) not knowing what has happened to a stolen dog must be much worse. I’m so glad he had a nice few days with your farmer friend, and if course that he was spotted and picked up immediately by Ruth and her friend.

I didn't think this story could get any worse, but cutting out microchips is beneath contempt, I truly cannot understand how some people are made. However, HURRAH, for the happy ending. Its lovely that you could round off the story, although I can see how it must have been sad for you all at the same time, but thank you and Mrs BYM and all the other good people in this tale, you are encouraging and heartening in this big bad world.
