unusual behaviour ?

Hi, one of my lovely hens has started to act a bit odd - she regularly wanders around our garden picking up bits of straw or grass & puts it on her back & then starts searching again. She is not unhappy or ill - but I am fascinated by what & why she is doing what she is doing? Any ideas

She's going broody and going through the 'building a nest' routine, but I only ever see that behaviour when they are actually in the nest box or under a bush. It will be confirmed when she goes into the nest box soon and fluffs up her feathers when you try to pick her up. She will also be making slightly different noises to those you have heard before. Failing that I don't know. I'll be very interested to hear what she is like in the next day or so.

It's to do with nesting though she may not be going broody.
