Hi there, this is a new post which is ask for input from all you quail lovers....

Please see original post for more info ..... but Queenie eating, drinking quite a lot.....mealworms, egg, quail mix etc....AND when I went to dose her this morning with antibiotics, the little darling had a little fly round the kitchen, such fun !!!!!! She's preening, pooping etc ..........but, still most of the time, even when eating....she has her eyes closed.. any thoughts ???

Also putting her back in with the others ....... how to go about it - she's been away from them since Tuesday afternoon!

The other 3 seem to be fine, still outside - eating loads, drinking lots, just one egg [which I've disposed off 'cos of antibiotics] and I'm still the devil incarnate when it comes to the antibiotic dosing....

Thanking you in advance for any thoughts on the eyes ...........

Just a quick quail update ... put Queenie back in the coop Saturday, upstairs to begin with, the other 3 immediately went up to see her and stayed with her, left them to it, and when I popped out later all 4 were downstairs. Later she went back upstairs, in the dark, she's still having a tendency to keep her eyes closed, and head down, bumping into things, but does open her eyes now 'n' again...she also scratches her head a lot, and is now catching the skin... so it's a "just wait and see what happens"...ANY THOUGHTS RE CLOSED EYES ????

She is surviving, but torrential rain here again on Sunday, foggy and damp since then, even with weatherproofing water still getting into the bottom area of the coop, but upstairs [Queenie's patch] is very dry, and she wanders around up there 1st thing, eating and drinking, then comes down stairs/ramp!! The other 3, usually at night, are happily ensconced in their cat litter trays full to the brim with hay/shavings - warm and dry...... they've also just had their last dose of antibiotics, I'm still perceived as the devil incarnate!!!! The looks I'm given ....

Hi feetrus, so glad she's holding her own, and wasnt attacked when she returned to the others, though it's odd she seems to be living a largely separate life. I do wonder if it could be Mareks or a similar virus as I believe this can affect their eyes. If it was a virus, of course the antibiotic wouldnt have touched it, though it might have helped if there was a secondary bacterial respiratory infection as well. Nothing more really you can do for her, just have to wait and see. At least the others seem to have responded to the medicine. So long as they have dry areas it's up to them to choose where to go, isn't it?
