Hi, Can anyone tell me why some chickens have twisted [deformed] toes.

Either genetic or due to a problem with the hatching process eg, too long in shell, wrong humidity.

As Foxy says. Some become so bad that they need to be destroyed, others live for years with no real problems.

or injury

we have a Plymouth who must have broken a toe & it has healed twisted - she refused or destroyed any attempts to splint it, and seems to get on just fine with one slightly wonky toe...
She can perch, fly, scratch etc perfectly well, as can the Redcap hen who hatched with a twisted foot :)

Thanks for the help, they don't seem to be causing any discomfort just look a bit odd. Thanks again for the help
