Hello All ,
I have 2 young daughters 4 and 8 who are going through the 'we want somthing furry or scally' stage , I really dont fancy a bearded dragon and hamsters make the flat smell funny , So i thought how about some chickens in the garden . we had some experience of them on holiday in devon while staying with a friend she had 2 chickens that roamed about , My girls loved them, feeding, cleaning and of course the eggs . Now Im sure the novelty will wear off but Im a beliver in chores for kids but of course will probably do most of it , but still it seems like a good way for them learn about keeping animals . I have done a small amonut of reserch and have rather fallen for the Silver laced Wyandotte Bantams, both for look and I've read their a good starter for the novice and friendly too. I saw a pair in Jolleys pet shop in crews hill ( I dont think Id buy them from their though) I'd prefer a breader And thats my first question , Can any one recomend a good supplier for them Preferably a friendly one I can ask millions of questions ,
My second question Concerns the the siteing of their coop , i have in mind a south facing area at the back of our garden , visable from the house , but it sits under a cherry tree Lots of cherrys, How do bantams fair with cherry pips?
Im thinking of a coop 100cm x 187 cm x 103 cm from uk coops on ebay I liked the way the front opened up for cleaning, They say its good for 'up to 9 small birds ' So bearing in mind sales talk I was thinking 3 bantams? they offer an extension to the run , another 100cm x 95 cm x 70cm , is this ample? They will have some access to the garden as well.
Sorry for the barrage of questions streight off , Look forward to any replies, thanks Conor
