Went to local suppliers last week and they'd run out so ordered from Amazon who promised it for today. The hens arrive tomorrow - what can I use until the bedding gets here? I have an Eglu Classic which is up and ready. Could I use lightweight cat litter?

We use newspaper or publicity brochures in all our coops now and scoop the poo from the surface every day. The paper is changed when it gets wet or too dirty. Can't see a problem with cat litter.
Just thought of a major potential problem with cat litter- they could see it as grit and eat it. Obviously that's going to lead to digestive impactions, so in retrospect DON'T use cat litter.

Thank you. The bedding arrived today so all is well. The chooks are now settling in.
The hens seem fine but reluctant to come out of their house. Is this normal for hens in a new home? When I called them and scattered a bit of food they came out but soon went back inside.
They're getting braver now and all three were out of their run for most of the day - in the rain! They seem happy and lively so I'm very pleased.

With luck the weather should be better tomorrow - might get some then.
It wasn't - it's been blowing a gale and hissing down. Same tomorrow. Maybe pics Wed/Thur?
