Time for bed?

Interesting little vid, I do hope there are a few more hens in that coop given the amount of cocks/cockerels around the place. I also liked your posting of the mercedes advert in 'you must watch this' Marigold. I had actually forgotten this part of the forum existed.
 
I liked the Big Boss Boy, with his lovely white hackles and enormous wattles - clearly in charge - but I felt sorry for the poor girl who had just popped out for a last- minute bit of supper and got involved in a gang bang.
 
I've just been back to the UK courtesy of a €35 return flight with Ryanair. For my in-flight reading I took 'Raising Chickens for eggs and meat' by Mike Woolnough (ISBN 978-1-904871-42-2) which I would say is essential reading for any new poultry keeper -an excellent and very thorough book.

Quoting from his chapter on Breeding he says "You should never ever keep a few hens with several cockerels. The poor girls have to run the gauntlet of the males to get to their roost at dusk, which is the favourite mating time for roosters, and it invariably leads to mass gang rapes that can leave the girls in a terrible state."
 
When I first saw Marigold's post, I was disappointed that I couldn't watch the video. Now, from the sound of it, I'm quite relieved that I couldn't! Sounds horrific... :shock:
