Thin shelled eggs

I know this isn't a new topic but nothing on the forum seems to match my situation.
I've got 3 chickens about 18 months old - they've all been really good layers and no problems but for about the past 2 months one of them has been laying a soft shelled egg - we can't figure exactly which one it is though !!
It's always in the coop not the nest box, it's always broken with the yolk spreading across the floor and often one of the chucks is eating it
So not sure if it breaks as it's being laid or one of the chucks is pecking at it to get at the yolk.
They've always got a supply of grit and we've started giving them some cider vinegar and making a small bowl of mash mixed in with Mineral Powder with probiotics and seaweed. Things did improve a bit and the shell was a bit better but not quite fully formed ( similar to the photos posted on an earlier post) but now they've gone back to being soft :-)06

Hope somebody can help

Best wishes from

Hi Granny Magic,
I'm having exactly the same problem with a hybrid who is 18 months old and has been laying steadily since last October. Is yours a hybrid as well? I've put it down to the probability that she's working towards a well- earned rest and probably a moult, though no feathers are being shed yet. I believe its quite common for hens to lay softies at the end of long and productive lay, and so I'm hoping mine (and yours) will actually stop, take a rest, get some new underwear, and then return to the job. Like you, I've been giving mineral powder, but shells from the others have been a bit thin as well.

Hi Marigold
Yes mine are hybrids as well. Thanks for your reply - don't feel too bad now so hopefully all will be well in time.
