I have a number of "feral" cats which are a lot less feral than they were. If you read Big Puss's diary you will see the trauma of getting him to the vet. It was nearly as bad when we caught Daisy, the female from the first litter - a necessity as one of her brother had been committing incest with her for most of the night.

For cats, like humans, feeding young ones in no protection against getting pregnant and Pussykins, the mum, produced two more tom cats. The vet said he would "do" them on demand if we took them in but only Tuesday to Thursday, as both Monday and Friday were busy days. So we need to catch the cats on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning when we are able to take them to the vets and collect them later in the day. Daisy was actually taken in on a Friday, but as it was snowing a lot of people had cancelled their appointments so they could operate. I nearly didn't get her back as there was nearly a foot of snow on our drive when I went to get her, and I was then snowed in for three days.

I now try NOT to think about taking them to the vet "this week" or Tuesday or Thursday or whatever as you can bet your bottom dollar that they will either go completely AWOL or else only put in an appearance after lunch, by which time it is too late. On the days they can't be taken for some reason or another, they will be in at 7.30 am and spend all morning sleeping on the sofa.

I don't do anything different except think about it. The cat carrier is permanently in the caravan so they get used to it, and Tiny Tabby has slept in it a few times when of course I can't take advantage of it. So what else is there other than telepathy?

Oh, and Pussykins has had three more kittens!

The arrangement was made months ago Chris so it isn't that, I think Marigold is right - it's like trying not to think about pink elephants!

Well waddya know!!

Tuesday through to Friday I can't take cats to the vets as I'm out in the opposite direction at 8.30 am and not back until 5.30pm -sooooooo, Black Tom has reappeared, full of affection, wanting lots of fuss and even sleeping on my bed (although I still can't pick him up). What's the betting he'll disappear again next week?

The little ones and mum reappeared tonight - she'll be the most difficult to catch, the littlies are all toms so not so urgent from my point of view (too young anyway). Just hope that Tiny Tabby, who is 11 months old and has been spending a lot of time with mum and the new kittens, hasn't misbehaved himself with mum. Mum still doesn't like Daisy and Black Tom, both of whom are 15 months old, near the kittens so hopefully Black Tom won't have had his wicked way with her either. 7 cats I can cope with, but no more!!

Psychic cats... I love it! Apparently hamsters can tell the future...

Wait, you have SNOW!?!?!? It's been 80°F to 105°F here since may! Where are you? Because you're obviously not in America!

Sorry to confuse you - no snow. That was back in March when it snowed non-stop for two days. Cooler today but virtually no rain and only faint rumbles of thunder here in Shropshire.

How do hamster tell the future - maybe there's one talking to the cats!

Ah, OK! XD

Well, some scientists made a cage where half of the cage at a time would be electrocuted with a mild shock. They didn't know which side would be shocked next, as it was computer controlled, and random. They put a hamster in the cage and started it up. Right before the next shock, the hamster would jump to the non-electrocuted side! The hamster continued doing this, and there was no obvious way that the hamster could tell which side would be shocked next, so they concluded that hamsters can tell the future!

No Courage. The hamsters can read the mind of the person with the button. That's not the same thing. They are mind readers not future tellers. So much for scientists then -missed the obvious for the best headline.

Err, no, think not Chris. Courage said the scientists didn't know which side would be shocked next "as it was computer controlled , and random".

I suspect that the hamster was detecting the electrical impulse nano seconds before it caused the shock - in the same sort of way that birds and animals can "foretell" earthquakes. They are all just more sensitive, or more in tune with their surroundings than we are. But the cats ...

The heat is affecting my brain Margaid and I've lost the ability to read what's written in front of me. The hamsters are reading the mind of the computer, not the scientists -that sounds really daft. Sorry Courage, they may actually be telling the future after all.
