hi,

my local stockist for haygates has just put their prices up yet again because of the price of wheat. im now paying £6-50 for a sack of 20kg.

just wondering if anybody else has found anywhere cheaper in oxfordshire/ northants/ warks? i buy 6 sacks at a time and cant put the price of my eggs up due to people already selling them cheaper near me. i sell mine for £1-20 per box of 6 and have another person only charging 60p.

all i can think is they are not feeding their birds properly or they are not even making a profit on it.
i struggle to make a profit as it is.

if anybody knows any good places that would be fab! i think haygates is one of the cheapest brands.

Im paying £6.50 for layers too. Our local feed merchant sells it for £5.50 if you take your own bag for the loose layers. Its the cheapest round here.

cheapest i can find is £7.10 when they have in stock , i wish i could find some one who does loose

I get 25kg sacks for £7.99 each, yes feed is getting expensive, I have an account with a feed store and my monthly feed bill is over £350 each month, that is without the cost of shavings, acv etc..

I use a specialist feed, and it costs a fortune - even although I luckily only have to pay cost price (got a deal) :D :D The normal cost is £9.50 for mixed corn, Chick starter mash £9.00 growers £10.40 and layers £11.20.. but it might seem expensive , but they eat a lot less of it and I've found in the long run, it's worked out cheaper.. I'm using about 14 bags of feed a week. As to the eggs,I charge £1.50 for large and £1.20 for medium and £1 for bantams, but I get a better return from selling hatching eggs.. It would be nice to "make" some money, but as long as it doesn't cost me too much I don't complain

my feed has gone up to £9 per bag was £7.90 thats within 8 days :o :o but my other stockists might still have it at £7 per bag although that bag didnt seem to last as long .

i just went and bought a bag it had gone up from last week to 7.45 20kg bag
so any one in essex near thurrock know cheap please let me know
corn i get for £5 a bag when on sp.

is it possible to buy it loose by the ton? would be really helpfull wouldnt it!

i hope the price of wheat drops this summer. does anybody know whether thats likely to happen?!

sounds like im getting it as cheap as you can but i am used to paying £5 a sack!

The price of wheat is falling back a bit now but don't hold your breath if you expect the price of feed to follow..
Have you tried buying Heygates pellets direct from the mill at Bugbrook, that would be about the cheapest way to get them.

i pay £7.05 for 25kg in north wales. My friend gets his for £6.50 if he buys 6 bags or more direct from a feed merchant(too far for me to go). i see no reason why some of the smaller mills wouldnt sell feed loose.

does anybody know where any smaller mills are or if bugbrooke sell loose feed?

I buy from Bugbrook mill by the sack not sure if they sell loose probably do by the ton.
Why not give them a ring they are very helpful.

I have to say that £6.50 sounds quite reasonable to me, I think my last sack cost slightly more than that. Do you know someone you could share a delivery with? I am sure I read on another forum that local chicken keepers had clubbed together and bought 20 sacks from one of the big brands and got it delivered and discounted (can't remember what company though - sorry).

Can you send some over here, please? The place where i normally get my feed from has just increased their proces again, and the layers mash is now almost 21€ for 25kg (that's over £18!)

I'm now going to travel the hour each way it takes to go to the feed mill and buy few bags to keep me going over spring, as the price will be sufficiently lower (one would hope) to cover the cost of the fuel!

Hi. I am in northern ireland and my closest feed merchant sells layers pellets at £8.25 for 25kg sack.

I too think you are lucky to get pellets at £6.50 as I was paying that for Haygates this time last year and at that time it was the cheapest feed around. It is now nearly £8 but it has to be delivered from Northampton to Surrey. I've now switched to 25 kg bags @ £9 /bag. Not much help to you I know. I can't see the price dropping that much either.

Tower Farm Saddlers at Barby near Rugby sell Farmgate layers at 6.40, or did about two weeks ago!

Wheat price has come back to around 140 which will probably stop any more rises but will not mean the price of feed will fall

£7.99 here, both layers pellets and mash.
not sure now if its 20 kg or 25 kg, but I'll look in the morning.
