This morning whilst the broody was feeding, I could hear cheeping, so I had a look at the 2 eggs that she was sitting on, (the other 4 were infertile) and could see that one of the eggs had a small beak popping through. This afternoon, I went to see the broody to top up her feed. I waited for her to raise off the nest to have a feed, and looked at the the 2 eggs. The same chick from the same egg in morning was dead, still curled up in the egg. I could see that the chickhad been working it's way out. These 2 eggs were 4 days late. There was no sign of breaking through or tapping from the other egg, so I cracked it open, and again another chick had died, but perfectly formed. The first chick I examined and could not see any signs of possible pecking from the broody. I'm a little stumped as I've not had chicks die in this way.

Can I have you views on this please?

my mums hen has been sitting on eggs and even thoug some are formed they didnt hatch at all over a week late.
she has now pinched half of the other brodies eggs so will see in weeks time iv got a hen sitting on 8 too cant wait
iv only had chicks hatched in incubator and even some of those dont make it ou shell

Never happened under my broody but only done that once. On one of my incubations I had the same thing happen 20 out of 26 made it out fine, 5 didn't hatch and one started in the evening, in the morning it was dead, still in the shell, it was on time too day 21 so very strange. I'm afraid I can't give and explanation but I do hope the next ones do better and you have some little chicks :-)

A lot of people seem to be having DIS, me included. The weather has been so changeable, really warm days, cold nights then damp it must affect things.

I've never had DIS until this year - a lot of people seem to have had this problem - all over the country - I've no idea why -

Hi,
It's a relief to hear its not just me thats had DIS problems this year, just thought I was rubbish at incubating.
Regards
Sue
