Hi All,

i have recently got 2 light sussex and 1 bluebell chicks. They are about 8 weeks old and in a separate coops to our other five loman hens. I have noticed recently that the bluebell chick seems to be struggling with its breathing ....as if she is getting her breaths from the heavens..... with every breath her neck goes out and up and then the odd chirp..... it has been very hot weather recently could this have anything to do with it? Any ideas?
Also one i my original hens seems to be sneezing alot lately.... again any ideas of what to give her
.
Thanks Damien

Hi, any bubbling from the eyes? or rasping breath? does the breath smell? It may well be mycroplasma- if that's the case then you need a vet to prescribe antibiotics ( normally Tylan or Baytril) asap
regards, David :)

Hi David

There is no bubbling from the eye that i can see.....but she does seem to be rasping for breath... i think i will bring her to vet tomorrow to be sure. Any ideas on my other hen sneezing alot and a gurggling sound when she is breathing... she is in good form, eating well and happy free ranging in evenings... the 2 girls are in different coops.

Thanks Damien

Hi, that could be mycro too or an upper respitory tract infection- if you go to the vets- they will give you enough antibiotics for your whole flock- you will need to treat them all if mycro
regards David :)

Thanks David,
My loman hen with the gurgling noise seems to be worse this evening. When i let them out to free range she ranged briefly and kind of sat into herself for the rest of the evening. At one stage i noticed her rear end expanding then contracting.... as i am a novice i think you are right with the vet .... i was just trying to see if i could sort something myself to gain some experience.... i will let you know the outcome
Thanks Damien

Hi Damien, hope the vet can help her- they go down hill very quickly- most chickens have no will to live :(
let us know how she goes,
regards, David :)
