We went to the show yesterday and left with mixed feelings. Didn't think there were anywhere near as many entries as last year but could be wrong. No Marsh Daisys in the rare breeds section but some terrible examples in the for sale (but unsold) section. A lovely trio of Naked Necks but had already been sold -probably just as well as we don't really need any more impulse buys. Lot more trade stands than last year and all inside -more room with less entries? There were some spectacular chickens there though. And I won a spray bottle of Net Tex drinker steriliser for 40p in their tombola!
Food was a sensible price as was the coffee, which makes a nice change from usual.
Bought a couple of Grandpa's Feeders, the large version. Trying to improve the balance now with extra lead weight on the underside of the footplate as the first one I assembled needed nearly a kilo to operate it -should be 550grs the seller said. Closes with a real crash as a result. We will use them in the large open runs as they are too big to go into a small covered run. Training the chickens to use them should be interesting; Arnold, although a lovely big Wyandotte softy, isn't that bright. Mind you, you should have seen his expression when we took his hens out of the run -desperately sad or what! But reunited a few minutes later.
Did anyone else go?
We're looking forward to Stafford in December, which should be several times bigger.
