Hi,

I have been raising chickens and ducks in north Cambodia for about 1 year.

Chickens are very different here, more like the original jungle fowl, they have no foxes and will roost in trees of their own accord and find their own nesting places. The cocks are beautiful to look at, compared with plain skinny hens, and are used a lot for fighting. They make a lot of noise!

I bought 3 geese for christmas, but they've annoyed me so much I am dealing with them now... only 2 left after yesterday.

Anyway just thought I'd say hello.

Hi Pedros and welcome to the Forum. Your chickens sound very interesting. We would like to see some pictures if possible. There was a post on the forum yesterday with a link to a site which discussed the origins of jungle fowl at length - did you see it? http://poultrykeeperforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7482&p=44490#p44490

Hello Pedros. Welcome to the forum. No foxes sounds like ideal chicken keeping territory. Are there no predators at all?

Thanks, yes, I have many photos, I'll post some up soon.

Rats are a big problem, and occasionally I'll see a snake. The hens are fiercely protective and the chicks learn to climb very young, I still lose a few chicks even if housed, but they grow fast and then can't be caged. Adolescent birds look weird, totally bold and scrawny. Very different to those I kept as pets back in UK.

I look forward to seeing your photographs Pedros. Sound like big rats; probably like the Coypu that inhabit places in the UK. Being South American they were originally pets that then escaped to the wild.
