Hi, I have noticed that one of my flock (not sure which) is laying an egg which is about roughly half the normal size, very long and thin in shape. Some of them also have a quite a soft shell.
Are they ok to eat and does it mean there is something wrong with the chicken? :?

Hi CTB.

Have just posted something similar myself. Personally I wouln't eat them as the shell protects the inner membrane. If this is not intact there could be allsorts of bacteria permeating the membrane?

Not sure about the chickens health, other than are they getting enough grit? I know your free range, as do mine, so they should be getting enough?

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can be more specific?

Sharron
