Hi all, i have a couple of sneezing chickens at the moment. I read that medicating their water with Tylan could do the trick, as it happens it hasnt made any difference. Has anyone any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

The presumption with that treatment then Cumbrian lad is that they have a touch of Myco. If that is the case Tylan should have done the job. If it is Myco it would have got a lot worse by now. I suspect it is a combination of damp or dusty bedding and poor ventilation in the coop. They could be developing respiratory infections which we always treat with Baytril directly. But until the cause is removed, treatment will be fruitless.

That could make sense, maybe a couple of months ago i switched from wood shavings to saw dust. This could be my problem, or the chickens!! They are all in forsham arks so ventilation is limited when they go upstairs to roost. I will change back to shavings and give the baytril a try. Thanks very much

Saw dust is far too dusty Cumbrian Lad and that's probably the source. Treatment may not be necessary. Change the bedding first and check them frequently.

Agree with Chris about the sawdust - it would affect me the same way if I had to sleep with it on the bedroom floor! And if you think the ventilation is poor in their ark, leave the pophole open. Best to avoid using any antibiotics unless on vets prescription following diagnosis of a definite problem.

Thanks for your comments i'm onto it. Much appreciated, i'll post the results in time.

I have now changed the sawdust in all my arks and have them on dust extracted wood shavings. The sneezing has stopped after a couple of days. I suppose it was a school boy error but thanks to Chris and Marigold for their advice. Lesson learned.
