Hello
I've been a member for just over a week and just discovered the introduction bit, duh! :?
Last week I was given 6 Welsummers and 2 Pekin bantams as a breeding pair. The cockeral is a frizzle and has just discovered his lungs. He crows all afternoon now, much to my amusement
He doesn't have to do anything at all and I still laugh at him, he's just a little round ball of feathers!
A dog got into my friends field and attacked the hens. He wanted them to be in a safe place and couldn't spend more time in the field so he passed them on to me.
Unfortunately one of the hens never recovered from the dog incident and is now in the great chicken run in the sky. The other hens are doing well other then missing some tail feathers.
I was happy with 3 eggs in my 1st week then discovered another 8 under my trailer today, so I'll be having an omelette for breakfast tomorrow!
These are my first hens and I'm chuffed to bits with them.
It's a shame I got them the way I did (it was a so called friends dog who attacked the hens!) and another shame I lost one so soon, but they've gone to a good home and they're doing very well.
My original plan was to get some ex battery hens and give them a happy home for the remainder of their lives and would still like to get some but I think I'll get used to the ones I've got for now.
By the way, this is a cracking forum and have been made to feel very welcome!
Regards
Osric
