can anyone help me, 1 of my pekin bantams is opening her beak as if to make a noise but nothing is coming out, plus she seems to have what looks like spit in her beak, can anyone tell me what might be wrong with her plz??????

Have you introduced any new birds in the last two weeks Tracy? When were they last wormed with Flubenvet?
Sounds like could be the beginning of a respiratory infection, IB, ILT or Myco and we have four with similar symptoms at the moment. Is she drinking OK? Is her crop full and firm?

i havent introduced any new birds and to my knowledge they havent been wormed, where can i buy Flubenvet from???

http://bit.ly/HZY6ae , ie Medicanimal, probably the cheapest place online. Sounds expensive but will treat 20 full-sized hens, so will do yours several times over. They need treating every 6 months.

thank you i have just ordered some, am i best keeping her by herself till i can treat them or is she ok to stop with the other girls?

It sounds more like a respiratory problem than anything worm related. I doubt it will do much good separating her at this point,as they have all been exposed now to any potential infection, plus removing from the flock will cause stress and exacerbate her illness. How long have you had your hens btw?

Observe her symptoms, and if they worsen you might want to consider a vet. In the meantime, remove any dust from the coop, and go easy on any powders, preferably if you can, stop using any product in a dust form eg. red mite powder, or dry disinfectants for the time being, this may mean switching bedding material, ensure there is plenty of ventilation also in the coop.

Good luck with her, and hope she returns to normal soon! :-)17

shes quite alert in herself think it may be gapeworm, have watched a video of a chicken with gapeworm and she is doing exactly the same, i have ordered the wormer like i said earlier, she is apart from the others so she can have some space and peace and quiet.
