Hi All
I have been looking for another small breed of chicken to keep ( have pekins at the mo) Think I have narrowed it down to booted bantams and seramas I am really liking the silkied ones. I have incubated quail and pekins but have been told seramas are hard to hatch and raise is this true? I am watching some on ebay but have not been able to find much information on them. if anyone on here keeps them I would be greatfull of any advice or tips ?

Hi,
i've also read that these aggs are hard to hatch because of their small size.I think size A is the smallest, one seller of fertile eggs stated that he would only send eggs that were at least size B eggs,to increase the chances of hatching. There are 2 sites with more information on Serama's that I would recomend, and the one, sunnyside serama did have a pair of adult birds for sale on bid4poultry.
http://www.sunnysideserama.com/index.html the other site is http://www.rosecottageserama.com/index.html
Hope these help.

thank you for the links. I have bitten the bullet and got some off ebay, did not cost to much so thought it was worth a gamble. fingers crossed

hi , I keep and have have hatched serama eggs and yes there is a nack to hatching.
They need a lower humidity of 42%, i dont candle as that can be enough to do damage. Also dont stop turning the eggs until they pip and increase humidity when piped.
Loads of info and help on the serama community forum .They have been great and very helpful, thats were i found info when i got started. :)

hope that help
Sandy

Hi, thank you for your advice. don't know how I will cope with not candling the eggs but I will try very hard :?
I'm trying not to get my hopes up with them going through the post but may try keeping an eye out at my local auction if these don't hatch. have lowered humidity a little though so just have to keep my fingers crossed.
also do you know the web address for the serama forum?

Sorry got the name now ................ The British Serama bantam community forum.
id give you the link but im not good with computers and havent worked that one out yet!!
I found it by putting in serama Bantam.
Recomend it to anyone who is thinking of keeping seramas.Their advice works cuz ive now got 9 seramas that i hatched.
i found a breeder and collected eggs from them, that way i avoided the post but i know people have had sucsess from posted eggs.
On this site you will find good breeders of good stock and know what you hatch is a serama.
;)

The link to Sunnyside BTW - I've been to visit Sunnyside and can certainly say she's got some nice birds. I bought my Chocolate Indian Runners from her. We spent about 2 hours drinking tea and talking ducks when I went up there.

yes i agree with Tim, Sunnyside has some beautiful birds so much that i drove from wiltshire to Birmingham to buy a breeding pair!! very pleased with them. :P

At the moment she has got a pair of Serama's for sale, have a look on her site, she also has the link to the serama forum.

Hmm ... Now where is she.... she used to be on all the forums a few years back. It would be nice to find her and point her in our direction.

C'mon Sunnyside, your ears must be burning!

I know she sells stock on bid4poultry,they've also got a forum so she may be on there. On her links page she does have a link to here.

I had a look at sunnyside serama's they look very nice birds. may be worth thinking about if these don't hatch but I'm still hoping i will get some to hatch. will let you know how I get on
