I probably started with chickens at the most worst time of the year, November. But I did not get too down hearted by the low hatching rate - 2 from my first batch of 6 eggs - those turned into fine bodied cockerels, but they do not seem to have any idea of "the facts of Life". Since then hatching rates have improved from eggs supplied by post. Now I have the Gold Star laying, although not in the coop and I am just about to check what my cockerels are up to when I am not looking. If they do not pass the test, then they are for the pot.

I hope to start chatting with you soon and passing on my observations and any help that I can offer.

Regards,

James

I just wanted to add, that having cockerels in a residential area is possible if you let you flock out after 9.00 am and are lucky enough to have a yapping Terrier living next door and an Organic compulsive living on the other side. Maybe you do not fit into this situation, but trying to keep the noise level down during sleeping hours is the answer.

Regards,

James
