Hi All - I am trying to get a full range of egg colours, and having currently got brown, blue, green and speckled I am now looking for something to lay a nice white, or creamy white, or pinkish colour medium to large egg

I was thinking of maybe Australorp or Salmon Faverolles. Does anyone keep these, what are they like in the egg laying department, and any other info gratefully received.

Hi Sue, I keep faverolles, a good egg laying strain and lay well into their 5th year. Mine lay a nice cream egg with a slight peach tint! :D

Interesting - and I should have thought of you - I have often admired your nice avatar. Its only recently I discovered that Faverolles can lay pinkish eggs that I suddenly got interested. What size/weight are there eggs, are the good layers, what sort of size do they reach. So many questions - I can feel the itch from that Morehens starting  Any chance of a piccie of some eggs.

These are some of my current eggs

I will get some piccies for you in the next couple of days. I also have aussies, and they lay more of a light cream egg, but not sure if that's typical or not as I do not have enough of them to make an accurate assessment.
I find some faverolles strain lay a slighter pinker egg than others, my strain are a good utility, and I have never had a problem with soft shells or poor quality.

Theese are georges looking eggs.I had always admired yours dark brown eggs in your avatar. They are on mine spring shopping list.Do you think i could have some please? :D

I am sure they will be providing "the goods" so I will happily put your name down - It would help if you could email through my websitethen I will have all the info I need when the time comes. And many thanks :D Sue

For beautiful very large white eggs, try Utility Leghorn in white or black. Best layers of all the pure breeds as long as you ge the right lines.

Are the Leghorns eggs pure white or white with a hint of something. I might want to cross sometimes with my blue or green egg layers, and white with a hint is better..... or so I have heard.

Apparently Leghorns are very good layers, good size eggs, and as they are smaller birds dont each as much as the ones I am used to.

iv hatched leghorns exchequer and blue one was white the other was slight cream but long time ago cant remeber what way round.
iv got 2 brahmas and there eggs quite small for such a big hen but they pinkish with purpleish spots intresting in the box
